Music in the Greyhound

Cabin Fever

Cabin Fever Play every Sunday From 7 pm. To be extremely honest, this duo are a well kept secret (until now.). There is a core few fans that really do not want the general public to hear this duo. They are unique, they do not need nor would they ever desire backing tracks. I have yet to hear a better version of "Billy" than their version. The have a broad genre, well their genre is Good Music, nothing else .Rarely if at all is their music mainstream or "commercial".   The Duo are Jon  O' Connell and Derek Gleeson. I fear that one day they will be whisked away by some record company.. Well if you love something set it free..

Jukebox Gypsy

Jukebox Gypsy
Just when I thought there was no Hope for music, when all that seemed to sell was tits and ass, just when I had decided that the public would only consider music good if it was dipped in candy and sweetened enough to rot out any trace of wholesome song...just then I was introduced to the Jukebox Gypsy, it seems this band are a group of individually talented solo artists that collaborate in each others masterpieces thus bringing perfect harmonies and accentuating the lyric that like an arrow, pierces our self defenses and allows us to really listen.....
Thanks to David Hopes generous nature we were fortunate to get this international band in April of this year.David called be to say they had a cancellation and that I really should book them as as he said, "they are one in a million". They have toured all the big venues in Ireland and managed to squeeze in a date for us. They were so successful we begged them to come back.. and they did, they have played four times with us this year and we are looking at getting them back once more in December 2011.

The Ceili Bandits

I used to think that I did not like Trad, just like i don't like turnips, I don't like turnips because its a food we used eat because it was cheap and plentiful not because it was of a divine flavour, I thought we used to listen to trad because it was there, all we had and it was accessible. I thought trad was something invented for tourists so we could humbly hand out a cap to be filled with dollars and to allow the Aran sweater look good.  Maybe it was like the turnip maybe I was force fed trad as it was something I was ordered to like. Then one night in the greyhound all my prejudice like unwanted turnip fell. My ears listened and my heart was filled with pride, this was this is amazing! this is Irish! I guess I was freed of my image of toothless Irish squeeze box players sitting by Kerry roadsides with an empty USA biscuit box for your spare change. Now I was engrossed in true passion these musicians played for the love of music, yes it is a job but once you hear them you will know. You will know that true Irish Trad is something very special, unique, a kin to jazz maybe.  Nothing like a turnip.. Thank you to Quinton, Eoin and Yvonne the Ceili Bandits. incidentally, I still don't like turnips...sorry.

 Robbie Alexander
Robbie is a Diamond ,He is Dylan he is Donavon he is Folk. Robbie has a voice, so have I that's not too rare, but Robbie's voice is... it is sooth as silk, like Baileys, not chilled though and with a flicker yes flicker of Brandy. He can finger pick a guitar faster and  as good as Doc Watson , Earl Scruggs or Rikky Skaggs. He is a real troubadour he does travel from town to town, presently, his town is in Germany and we miss him dearly.
